Keller Plaza Apartments Community Center Renovation, Oakland, CA
Architect: Stephen Laird Doherty Architect
Developer: Mosaic Urban Development
This rehabilitation of a community building at the heart of the Keller Plaza Apartments consisted of a total reconfiguration of the interior walls, exterior windows and doors, and the addition of several new skylights and mechanical rooftop systems. The extensive scope of work triggered a mandatory seismic strengthening for the entire building. Our detailed investigation of the as-built conditions combined with thoughtful design and evaluation allowed us to strengthen the existing structure without a costly reconstruction.

This rehabilitation project of 4 two and three-story wood-framed residential buildings included a complete site renovation, the addition of custom balconies to all four buildings, rehabilitation and strengthening of exterior stairs, a trash enclosure, a mail box structure, a barbeque area, as well as a new entry to the complex. Furthermore, dry rot throughout the project called for extensive repairs to the exterior walls and patios.
66th Street Infill, Oakland, CA
Architect: [mp-a] mike pitler architecture
This ground-up multi-unit townhouse project is a condominium development consisting of four free-standing units. The units are two and three-story tall wood-frame buildings. TJI engineered joists were used to span open floor plans. The design also included many sliding doors and window openings to connect the indoor space with semi-private yards. As a result, the structural design strategically optimized the location and length of the shear walls in order to allow for this design concept- a move that also increased the market value of these units.
